Wrestling has 3 place at 3C2A State Meet, finish in 14th place

The Raider Wrestling team traveled to San Luis Obispo for 3C2A State meet hosted by Cuesta College this past week-end and finished in 14th place with 37 points. Mount San Antonio took the overall team championship as 22 teams competed at the two day event. 

The Raiders were led by Jezziel Perez's (Birmingham HS) runner-up finish at 174 pounds. Perez sailed through his side of the bracket earning a tech fall in the 1st round, Major Decision in round two, and earning a tough 5-1 win in the semis. In the finals match, Perez took on Mt SAC's Nathan Cruz who was ranked #1 throughout the year. The first period went 0-0. In the second, Cruz got 2 point TD but Perez was able to escape as time expired. Cruz ended the match on another TD and played defense to run out the clock

Gabe Carrillo (Royal HS) ended in up 5th at 157 pounds. Carrillo took his opening round match in a Major Decision. In the quarters he decisioned Nathan Dehart of Fresno 3-1. In the semis he fell to eventual 157 state champ Alex Ramirez. From there, Carrillo wrestling for 3rd place, he was decisioned 10-4. In the 5th place match, Carrillo Majored Chase Mirelez of Modesto, 16-2.

Cameron Fernando (LaCanada HS) ended his meet in 8th Place. Fernando opened with a 1:45 pin and lost his second round via fall. In the fight for 3rd, Fernando pinned Logan Rubio of Santa Ana, before losing again in the 3rd place quaters, 4-0. In the 7th place match versus Tallon Chambers, Fernando made a critical mistake as time was expiring in the first and Chambers got the pin.

Other MC State qualifiers Albert Mechamal (Oxnard HS) went 0-2 at 141 pounds and Armando Renteria (Hueneme) went 0-2 at 165 pounds to round out the meet.

The Raiders end their season 3-2 in SWCA Southeast Conference for 3rd place, 4-4 in overall dual meets.
