#6 Women's Basketball go 2-0 at ELAC's Okawa Classic, focus turns to WSC North conference

The #6 Women's Basketball team made their annual trip to Monterey Park to play in ELAC's Okawa Classic and this year came away with two wins. The Raiders were scheduled to play 3 games but the last game of the week-end vs LA Southwest was cancelled.

On the opening night, facing another ranked opponent in #3 Orange Coast College, the Raider's defensive effort played havoc on the Pirates as the Raiders were able to control the first half on their way to a 30-18 halftime lead.

The second half was a different story as OCC's highly rated offense would make an appearence. Holding the Raiders to only 6 points in the 3rd, the Pirates applied pressure in the 4th quarter. OCC made a 11-6 run to cut the lead Raider's lead to 3. From there, both teams exchanged baskets with the Pirates trailing by a point with :28 remaining. Rebecca Saidof iced the game with two made free throws with :10 seconds to go. OCC able to put up a possible tying shot but Mika Jarrett fouled OCC's Bridgette McIntrye with :01 left. McIntrye was able to make 2 of 3 free throws. 51-50 Raiders. Rebecca Saidof had a game high 16 points, Angelina Santana added 11 points.

On night two, the Raiders were looking to avenge an earlier season loss to ELAC back in November and the Raiders came out with that intent. The Raiders used a 24-13 opening frame score to cruise to the victory. The Raiders were able to open up an 18 point lead in the middle of the 3rd and the Huskies never got closer than 10 points. 65-47, Raiders

Rebecca Saidof led all scorers with 28 points and 7 rebounds. Keilani Peralta added 13 points. Success Prysock grabbed 10 rebounds.

Due to the holidays, the details about LASW game cancellation were not available.

The Raiders will shift thier focus to defending their WSC Noth title and will take on Pierce, Wednesday, January 10th at 7p.
