Women's Basketball takes Consolation title at The Tom Gilgrest Invitational

The Raider Women's Basketball team traveled to Visalia to compete at the Tom Gilcrest Invitational hosted by College of Sequioas. The Raiders went 2-1 on the week-end. They opened up the tournament losing to '23 State Runner-up Butte College, 62-56. On the second night, the Raiders took on conference foe Ventura and defeated the Pirates, 82-52. In the Consolation final, the Raiders took on another tough NorCal opponnet in Chabot College, holding them off, 56-47.

Playing Butte for the second time this year, the Raiders came out slow and the Roadrunners took advantage, racing out to a 12-2 1st quarter lead at 4:17 mark. The Raider's offense eventually woke up and went on a 7-3 run to end the quarter. The second started evenly but the the Raiders found a hole in the BC defense taking the lead at the 7:30 mark but couldn't pull away with Butte staying within 3 points. The Roadrunners re-took the lead late in the 2nd to take a 32-29 lead in to halftime. The 3rd quarter was played evenly with niether team able to take control. The 3rd featured 8 lead changes and with 4 ties and Butte ending the 3rd with a 46-44. The 4th went the same way with 2 lead changes before Butte was able to pull away for the win. With the loss, the Raiders moved to consolation part of the tournament bracket where VC awaited them. Rebecca Saidof led the Raiders with 18 points and Keilani Peralta added 13 points.

On night two, the Raiders faced cross-county and conference foe Ventura. In the WSC North preview contest, the Raiders raced out to a 42-24 halftime lead and never looked back. In the 3rd, the Raiders tightened the screws outscoring the Pirates 30-16 to take an unsurmountable 72-40 lead and a 82-52 final. Keilani Peralta had a game high 23 points off the bench, Rebecca Saidof added 19 points and 8 rebounds.

In the Consolation final, the Raiders took another NorCal power in Chabot. After a 1st quarter 17-17 tie, the Raiders outcored the the Gladiators 29-17 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to take a 46-34 into the 4th. Chabot cut into the MC lead but the Raiders were able to finish off Chabot, 56-47. Rome Falcocchia had 12 points with 7 rebounds. Rebecca Saidof added 12 points, 8 rebounds and Mika Jarrett add 10 points.

The Raiders are currently 7-3 overall and next host the Tommy Arellano North/South Challenge begining Thursday, 12/14.
