1st place Softball defeats Hancock and VC to remain unbeaten in WSC North

Softball continued WSC North action coming from behind to defeat Hancock, 8-5 in the first game of the week and defeated host Ventura in 5 innings, 8-0 in the second game of the week. With the two wins, the Raiders ran their record to 11-0 in WSC North, 25-6 overall. They closed out the week hosting College of Canyons in home doubleheader to end their non-conference schedule. 

In the Hancock game, the Raiders spotted the Bulldogs 5 runs to open the game. Undetered, the Raiders chipped away at Hancock lead scoring 2 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd to take a 6-5 lead. They added 2 more runs in the 3rd to round out the scoring. Kylie Kolkowski went 2 for 3 with a Homerun, a double, and 2 RBIs. Maddy Mekari went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. Isabella Velasquez doubled with 2 RBIs. Pitcher Amanda Smith struck out 10 to get the win.  

At the Ventura game, the Raiders opened the game scoring 3 runs in the top half of the 1st. They expolded in the their top half of the 5th sending 9 to the plate and coming away with 5 runs to make the score 8-0. Alexa Paradis and Danielle Bishop each hit 2 RBI doubles to propell the 5 run outburst. Alexa Paradis went 1 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs on the day. Danielle Bishop went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Mallory Akhlaghi and Leah Cowans scored twice. Pitcher Amanda Smith struck out 3 and scattered 3 hits to get the win.

The Raiders had a 17 game winning streak heading into the doubleheader but the Cougars ended the streak defeating the Raiders 7-4, in game one. The second game was a bit closer and exciting. The Raiders had a 5-1 lead going into the 6th where Canyons pushed across two runs in the 6th and 3 in the top of the 7th to take a 6-5 lead. In the Raiders half of the 7th, Maddy Mekari's homer sent the game into extra innings. In the 8th and with tiebreaker rules in affect, the Cougars added two runs. The Raiders were able to get a run across but left the tying and wining runs on base to end the game, 8-7.

The Raiders host Santa Barbara in a crucial WSC match-up on Tuesday, 4/16. The Raiders had to go 8 innings to defeat the Vaqueros back on 3/21. A win and the Raiders clinch a tie for the WSC title. They clinch an outright title with a win at Pierce, 4/18.
