1st Place Softball wins 2 more in WSC North and sweeps Citrus in a non-conference double-header

MOORPARK, CA - The Raider Softball continued their winning ways the past week opening the week and second round WSC North play with a 9-0, 5 inning decision over Santa Monica. They also picked up a 2-0 forfeit win over Oxnard as the Condors could not field a team. Then Raiders capped off the week playing Citrus in a non-conference double-header, winning both games 2-1 and 5-1.

Hosting Santa Monica to open 2nd round WSC action, the Raiders pushed runs across in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd before exploding for 6 in the 4th. In the 1st, Taytem Reyes took base after being hit, stole second, third and scored on Mallory Akhlaghi's grounder. The second run after Alexa Paradis singled and scored Kylie Kolkowski's sac fly. The Raider's 3rd run on a repeat of the 1st inning. Reyes was hit by pitch, scored on Akhlaghi's sac fly. The Raiders sent 11 batters to plate in the botom of the 4th and put 6 runs. Paradis doubled, Maddy Merkari doubled home Paradis, Kolkowski singled home Merkari, Ashlyn Olson singled, Mia Gregory doubled home Kolkowski and Olson. Reyes grounded out to third but Gregory scores.Ahklaghi singles and Paradis gets her second double of the inning to score Ahklaghi. 9-0 Raiders. Amanda Smith finished off the Corsairs in the top of the 5th. Smith allowed just 1 hit, struck out 6 and walked 2 to pick up her 19th win on the season.

Oxnard forfeited due to lack of players available for the game. 

To finish off the week, the Raiders hosted Citrus, the 3rd place team in the WSC South and it figured to be competitive two games and both teams didn't disappoint. Citrus led off the the game getting an unearned run. The Raiders tied the game on Isabella Velasquez's home run to deep left center. The score remained 1-1 going to the bottom of the 6th. Akhlaghi singled to open the 6th. Danielle Bishop bunted Ahklaghi over. Next batter Leah Cowans singled home Akhlaghi. Enter Smith who got the the first two batters. Allowed a single but enticed a fly ball to end the game, 2-1. Smith picked up her 20th win of the season.

Game two started like game 1 with Citrus pushing a run across using a hit and taking advantage of a Raider error. In the Raider half of the 1st, Akhlaghi reached base on E4, Ashlyn Olson reached base on E1. Cowans grounded out but Akhlaghi scored, 1-1. The Raiders added 3 in the 2nd and 1 in the 5th to extend their lead 5-1. Smith scattered 4 hits and struck out 3 to get her 21st win on the year.

The 1st place Raiders are now 8-0 in WSC North, 23-6 overall. They will continue WSC North action hosting Hancock on Tuesday, 4/9, 2:30 then travel across the county to take on Ventura, Thursday, 4/11, 2:30 and finish up the week at College of the Canyons in rain make-up double-header on Firday, 4/12.
