Amanda Smith no-hits Ventura, defeats Santa Barbara in extra innings to remain undefeated in WSC action

MOORPARK, CA - The Raider Softball team continued WSC North action hosting Ventura in the first game of the week before heading to Santa Barbara for a crucial WSC matchup. Pitcher Amanda Smith no-hit the visiting Pirates and the Raider offense did the rest, 8-0 in 5 innings. In the second game against Santa Barbara, it took 8 innings but the Raiders defeated the Vaqueros, 4-3.

In the week's opener, the Raiders opened the game sending 7 batters to the plate and scoring 4 runs. Danielle Bishop reached base on E5, which would've ended the inning but Bishop promply stole 2nd and reach 3rd on a WP. Leah Cowan's RBI single scored Bishop. Next Raiders Isabella Velasquez singled but reached 3rd on E7, scoring Cowans. Next batter, Maddy Mekari homered over LF scoring Velasquez, 4-0 after 1. The Raiders scored 4 more in the bottom of the 3rd. Alexa Paradis 2 run home was followed by Kylie Kolkowski's jack over CF. Mia Gregory followed with a single and stolen base. Next batter Taytem Reyes RBI double scored Gregory. 8-0 Raiders. Amanda Smith faced one above the limit and had 4Ks to get the win. 

Traveling to Santa Barbara for a crucial match-up, the Raiders knew they were in for a battle. They opened their half of the 1st with Taytem Reyes reached base on E4. Mallory Akhlaghi bunted and Reyes was able to reach 3rd on the throw to 1st. Reyes scored on a pass ball, 1-0 Raiders. In the top of the 3rd with 2 outs, Akhlaghi walk was followed by Bishop's RBI triple. Bishop scored on a pass ball. 3-0 Raiders. Santa Barbara scored 3 in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game, 3-3. In the top of the 8th, Bishop opened up with single, promply stole second and used a wild pitch to land on 3rd. Leah Cowans grounded to 3rd and Bishop took home on the throw to 1st. 4-3 Raiders. Santa Barbara's Mia Reveles singled, stole 2nd and 3rd but was stranded on 3rd as Smith enticed 2 pop-ups and fly ball to end the game, 4-3 Raiders.

The Raiders are currently 15-6 on the year and 5-0 in WSC North.

Next up for the Raiders is a home game against Pierce on Tuesday, 3/26 at 2:30p before heading to Cuesta for another crucial WSC match-up, Thursday, 3/28 at 2:30p
