Men's, women's cross country both finish 3rd in season opener

MOORPARK - The Moorpark College men's and women's cross country teams each finished in 3rd place in the Moorpark Open to start the 2021 season at Arroyo Community Park Friday afternoon.

Matthew Russell ran the best team on the men's team, clocking his 4-mile race in 21 minutes and 16.22 seconds to finish in second place. Johnny Slone (21:45.88) finshed sixth and Luis Silva crossed the finish line in 15th (23:16.14) to round up the top three finishers.

The Raiders tallied 76 points with an average time of 23:11.22 behind 1st-place finisher Glendale (25 points) and 2nd-place Bakersfield (58).

Vanessa Avila's 20:15.87 was the best time on the women's team in the 5k race. Daphne Delmar (14, 21:22.56) and Emily Richmond (18, 22:54.97) put in great efforts. Moorpark tallied 59 points for its 3rd-place finish.
