Men's and Women's Track & Field post great results at the Occidental Distance Carnival

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Men's and Women's Track teams competed at the Occidental Distance Carnival against 4 year schools and along with other community colleges, the Raiders did not disappoint and posted some great results.

Cytres Vives jumped 6'7.5" at the Oxy Invitational for the win.   The jump was just shy of his personal best and places him as the #1 high jumper in Southern California and the #3 high jumper in the State!

Two athletes had their debut races at Oxy.   Sophomore, Michael Holland, ran his first 400m race of the 2024 season.  His time of 48.79 was a ½ second PR and good for a 3rd place finish.  This time also ranks him #1 in conference!

Freshman, Kade Larson took 2nd place in the shot put with a throw of 46'3.5" and is currently ranked #1 in Conference and #4 in the State.  Kade threw a personal best in the hammer with a throw of 141' 9" on his first attempt and is currently ranked #1 in Conference in 3 throws – the hammer, shot put and discus. 

Top performer for the Raiders Distance squad was Dylan Brown who opened up his 2024 track season with a 15:16 5K and was 67th overall (out of 211 runners!)

 Additional highlights:

  • Eric Glover:  1 foot PR in the shot put (43'11.25"), finished 4th
  • Desmond Winbush:  .04 second season PR in the 100 for a 9th place finish (11.08)
  • Tyler Zeedik:  .21 second season PR in the 100 (11.32)
  • Aiden Bermudez:  .04 PR in the 100m (12.00)
  • Chris Brady-Breton:  8 second PR in the 1500 (4:13)
  • Ethan Kuske:  23 second PR in the 5K  (15:41)
  • Hezekiah Bergara:  5 second PR in the 5K (16:14)

 Women's Track Highlights

Top finisher for the Raiders was Ava Ball.   Ava jumped 10'8", a season best in the pole vault, to place 2nd overall.   Ava is the WSC Conference leader and is currently ranked 9th in the State.  

 Additional Highlights:

  • Mayagrace Wilson:  Matched her season best in the 100 (12.59) to place 7th
  • Denver Mack-Reyes: ½ second PR in the 100 (13.15)
  • Jaelyn Lee:  Placed 5th in the discus (110'11)
  • Madison Reeder: Placed 6th in the discus (108'8)
  • Raquel Salazar-Perez:  1meter PR in the discus (86'11)
  • Shelly Martin:  2 second PR in the 800 (2:33)
  • Margarita Rosales:  4 second PR in the 1500 (5:21)

 Next up for the Raiders are the BC Relays hosted by Bakersfield College, Friday and Saturday 3/15-16
