Track and Field hosted their 6th Annual Season Opener Meet, competing against 9 schools

The Raider Men's and Women's Track and Field teams hosted their 6th annual Season Opener Track meet on Friday, February 2nd.  

For our freshmen Raider Track & Field athletes, this was their first college track meet.  These highlights will focus on our freshmen Raiders!

Freshman Denver Mack-Reyes competed in 7 event Heptathlon over two days and came away with the fastest 200m time and placed 2nd overall.   

On Friday, The Raiders hosted a total of 9 schools. Four community colleges (Bakersfield, Cuesta, Santa Barbara and Riverside) and 5 universities (Arizona Christian, Cal Lutheran, Master's, Vanguard and Whittier) joined us.  

Top freshman for the Lady Raiders was Mayagrace Wilson who took 2nd in the 60m with a time of 7.96 and was on the 4th place 4x400m relay team.

Kailani Chisholm had a great day placing 7th in the 60m (8.31), 4th in the long jump (4.85m) and running on the 4th place 4x400m relay team. 

Mariah Kendrick tied for 6th in the high jump with a jump of 1.45m (4'9").  

For the throwing events, by the time the women's shot put started it was dark so the ladies threw by the warm glow of the golf carts!  Madison Reeder threw the discus 33.51m for a 6th place finish and placed 14th in the shot put (8.14m).  Erin Winston was 11th in the discus (27.97) and 18th in the shot put (7.36m).

Additional performances by freshmen Lady Raiders include Morgan Blank in the 60m Hurdles (11.49) and Ada Muzoglu in the 1500m (6:29).

On the men's side, the freshmen had several amazing performances!  In a field of 48 athletes, freshmen Rashad Shamburger, Tyler Zeedik and Carson Zeedik placed 4th, 7th and 14th with times of 7.06, 7.21and 7.27, respectively!!!  Alexander Gutierrez was 33rd (7.62).

 In the 600m run, Christian Brady-Breton ran 1:27 for an 8th place finish while teammates Jonathan Castro(1:29) and Devin Heinemann (1:34) placed 17th and 23rd, respectively.   

Tyler Smith was the 7th fastest time in the 3K (8:52) and to finish the night on the track, the men's 4x400m relay team placed 2nd overall (3:28).   

Highlights in the field events for the Freemen Raiders include a 3rd place long jump performance by Tyler Zeedik (6.40m) and a 5th place finish by his brother, Carson Zeedik (6.28m).   

In the throws, Kade Larson placed 4th in the discus (44.60m) and Eric Glover took 6th with his 12.75m shot put toss.  

Of the 33 men in the discus, Ian Burr finished 16th (33.80m) while teammates Alex Rivera (29.83m), Logan Clarke (29.59m), Angel Ortega (29.30m) and K.C. Lewis (27.46m) also had good season openers!

Angel Ortega (9.49m), Alex Rivera (9.16m) Logan Clarke (8.33m) and K.C. Lewis (8.86m) also had good season openers in the shot put.

For the hammer throw, only Ian Burr was able to get a mark because the event was cancelled due to darkness. His throw of 29.16m placed him 9th overall.     It is time to get lights!

The Raiders next will compete at the Bakersfield College Battle of the Regions on Friday, February 9th.
