MC men's, women's basketball tip off 2021-22 season
Finally, it's basketball season.
The Moorpark College men's and women's basketball teams started its respective 2021-22 seasons this past week.
The men were in the 'We Play Hard' Tournament at Ventura College, going 1-2 after losses to Riverside (96-85) and Antelope Valley (80-56) before picking up a win over Pasadena City in overtime, 100-89.
Deon Francois tallied 27 points, seven steals and five rebounds in the Raiders' setback to Riverside. Anthony Vespe was the leading scorer with 21 in the team's loss to AVC. Carter Alexander dropped 27 points and Vespe added 22 in the win over Pasadena.
Moorpark will play in the Alvin Hunter Classic on Friday (Nov. 12) at San Bernardino Valley against East LA, which was highlighted in the Netflix original series 'Last Chance U' a year ago.
The Ladies
The women were in the Delta College Tournament this past week and went 2-1. The Raiders topped Merced (64-58) and Folsom Lake (62-38) before falling in the tournament final to San Joaquin Delta 74-62.
