MC football unbeaten in conference; sets up showdown with SBCC

Don't look now, but the Moorpark College football team is rolling.

The Raiders won their third straight game in the American-Pacific Conference with a 50-8 win over LA Valley at home Saturday night. Moorpark moves to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play, including a scoring difference of 124-8 in the last two victories.

Once again, the Raiders offense spread the wealth by seeing 13 different players log a reception and eight players notching at least one rushing attempt. Quarterback Bennett Johnston threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns and Gabe Landless led Moorpark in rushing with 64 yards and a score on 14 carries. Arcelles Johnson had two touchdown receptions in the win.

The defense shined, too. Braden Robinson had an interception return for a touchdown and Arnulfo Morales had 2.5 sacks in the dominating victory. Michael Hernandez and Morales led the team in tackles, each with five. The defense forced six turnovers.

The Raiders will now have a showdown at Santa Barbara City College (7-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Vaqueros are also unbeaten in conference play, which means the winner is likely to earn an inside track to a conference title with just two games left in the regular season.
