MC cross country starts 2019 season strong at Oxnard Invitational

The Moorpark College cross country runners had a great start to the 2019 season, competing at the Oxnard College Invitational. Sophomore Sophia Cortina won the women’s race for the second consecutive. Cortina’s time of 19:11 was a 15-second improvement from last year’s time.
The ladies placed 3rd as a team behind Glendale and Ventura College. Second for the Raiders was Liz Verdin, who placed 19th with a time of 22:02. Following Verdin was Adriana Perez (22:29), Venus Venegas (22:41) and Estefania De Los Santos (22:51). The trio placed 22nd, 23rd and 25th, respectively.
Elizabeth Hsu (22:34) placed 29th while Andrea Gonzalez (24:41) placed 34th. Talia Kokonian (26:04) and Kimia Karaminejad Ranjbar (26:27) finished 44th and 46th.
The men’s team finished 4th. The Raiders were led by freshman, Josh Moncada, who placed 14th in a time of 22:45. Close behind was sophomore Robby Riggs (22:54). who shaved a minute, 14 seconds off last year’s Oxnard Invitational time and placed 16th.
Zach Leith was 24th (23:52), Connor Ahl (25:26) and Andrew Garcia (27:38) placed 42nd and 51st while Daniel Peraza (28:21) and Ronald Reyes (29:10) were 54th and 56th.

Next week the Raiders will travel to Cuesta College for the Tour de Cuesta on Friday, August 30th.
