#7 Women's Volleyball claims outright WSC North Championship with a 5 game thriller win over LA Mission
SYLMAR, CA: The #7 Women's Volleyball team claimed the outright WSC North championship with a 5 game thriller over LA Mission, 3-2. Game scores were 18-25, 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, and 15-11. For the first time in 5 years, the Raiders will not have to share the WSC title, having to share it last year and in 2021. It is the 16th WSC title in school history.
Before the Raiders and Eagles squared off, the Raiders hosted Hancock the night before. The match with Hancock was originally scheduled for 11/6 but it was postponed due to a High Wind/Heat warning that led to an emergency power-shut off which subsequently led to the Mountain fire. The events caused a 3 day campus closure which led to none or very little gym time for the Raiders.
The Raiders defeated Hancock, 3-1. Game scores were 25-10, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21. On to Mission.
Just like in their first meeting on October 18th, the Eagles took game one, 18-25, followed by two Raider wins, 26-24, 26-24. Game four once again went to Mission, 23-25. The difference was game 5. The Raiders didn't need a comeback as in their first meeting instead the Raiders controlled game 5 to win it 15-11.
The Raiders conclude the regular season 21-4 overall, 11-1 in WSC North. They will host a WSC Cross-over game on Saturday, 11/16 at 6p with the opponent to be determined. After that game, they will await 3C2A Southern California play-off seeding to be announced next week.
