#9 Women's Volleyball defeats Cuesta after Sophomore Night postponed due to emergency power shut-off and South Fire
The Moorpark College Women's Volleyball ended up having an eventful and memorable week.
First Sophomore Grace Hazelton was named one of three CCCWVBCA Players of the Week. The OH hitter from El Camino Charter HS was nominated after she totaled 31 kills, 21 digs and passed at 2.0 rating in helping the Raiders to two important, Western State Conference North Division victories over Ventura and Santa Barbara City. She posted 19 kills with 12 digs in the 4-set win over SBCC.
Second, waking up Wednesday morning, Moorpark College's power was shut-off due to a forecasted Santa Ana wind event and high heat alert that caused the South Fire. This would continue for 2 more days, postponing their Sophomore Night festivities against Hancock.
Third, with very little practice time, the Raiders traveled to Cuesta on Friday and defeated the hosts in four games. Game scores were 20-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-17.
In the first game, the Raiders showed the affects of two days with a full practice and a 3 hour drive and Cuesta took advantage taking game one. The Raiders would eventually find their rhythm that led them to the top of the standings taking the next three games.
The Raiders are currently 9-1 in WSC North and 19-4 overall. They will host Hancock on Tuesday, 11/12 at 6p and hold their Sophomore Night celebration. On Wednesday, 11/13, they will travel to Mission for anticipated showdown with the Eagles. Depending the outcome of the Hancock game, the Raiders can clinch an outright WSC North championship with a win, with a loss, they will tie with Mission.
They will finish the week hosting a WSC Crossover event on Saturday, 11/16 with opponent tba.
