#10 Women's Volleyball sweeps Cuesta, defeats LA Mission in a 5 game thriller to finish 1st round atop WSCN standings

The Women's Volleyball team had two home games last week and came away with two WSC North conference wins. With the wins, the Raiders complete the first round of conference action atop the WSCN at 5-1.
The Raiders wasted little time sweeping Cuesta, 3-0. With LA Mission looming ahead on friday, the Raiders did not fall into the trap and dominated the Cougars in all facets of the the match. Game scores were 25-5, 25-8, and 25-10. Abby Montana led the Raiders with 9 kills.
To cap off the week, the Raiders hosted LA Mission in a crucial conference contest. The winner will more than likely stand at first place atop conference standing. In game one, the teams traded leads and the Eagles slowly pulled away. The Raiders fought back but Mission was able to keep the Raiders at bay and take game one, 25-20. In Games two, the Raiders were able to build a lead and hold off the Eagles, 25-19. Games three went the Raider's way, 25-22 but it was battle. The final score came down to Eagle miscues at the end. In Game 4, the roles were reversed. Mission took the game 25-22 and it came down to Raider service and hitting errors. Now game 5. The Raiders opened up a 3-0 lead, the Eagles cam right back to tie it. The Raiders went up 6-3 and Mission tied it and went ahead 9-6. The Raiders fought back to to make it 11-9 Mission. The Raiders tied the game at 13 but the Eagles made it 14-13 and serving. The Raiders were able to tie the game 14-14 and take the lead 15-14. Serving match point, the Eagles struggled to return the serve opening up the Raider put away. 16-14, Final.
Alesia Thomas had 16 kills and 11 digs. Grace Hazelton had 15 hills with 6 kills. Prior Borick had 14 digs. Gaby Schirado had 40 assists in the win.
The Raiders are 5-1 in WSCN and 15-4 overall. They have a midweek bye and will start second round of conference hosting Pierce on Friday, October 25th at 6p.
