#11 Women's Volleyball splits on the week, falls to Santa Barbara before sweeping Hancock
The #11 Women's Volleyball having swept Pierce and Ventura to open WSC North action, faced their toughest test in conference, hosting Santa Barbara in their mid-week matchup. In their Friday night match-up, the Raiders traveled to Santa Maria to take on Hancock. After a six year hiatus, the Bulldogs re-instated their volleyball program this fall.
The Raiders opened the Santa Barbara match taking game one, 25-23. In game two, the Raiders could not overcome Santa Barbara's lead, dropping game two, 19-25. Games 3 & 4 were both tight, back and forth. In game three, th Raiders trailed late and closed the gap to two points but a hitting service error meant a 25-22 Santa Barbara win. Game 4 looked like the Raiders would push the match to a fifth game. The Raiders had a late 23-22 lead but errors cost the Raiders down the stretch, 25-23.
Alesia Thomas had 16 kills, Grace Hazelton had 13 kills and 18 digs. Abby Montana added 10 kills. Gaby Schirado had 41 assists while Prior Borick had 20 digs.
At Hancock, the Raiders swept the Bulldogs, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-23. The Raiders led throughout all three games while substituting freely to get the sweep.
Alesia Thomas had 10 kills and 10 digs. Grace Hazelton had 10 kills and 10 digs. Abby Montana had 10 kills and Gaby Schirado had 29 assists. Prior Borick had 10 digs.
The Raiders will be back in action hosting Cuesta on Wednesday, 10/16 @6p before hosting another tough opponent in LA Mission, Friday, 10/18 @6p.
