DECEMBER’S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Women's Basketball Team
The Female Athlete(s) of the month for December is the women's basketball team for being ranked No. 1 in the state and holding a 16-1 record. For the month of December, the Raiders were 7-1, winning the prestigious Santa Ana tournament and Antelope Valley tournaments. The whole team was selected for this monthly award with the unselfish notion that they wouldn't be where they are today if not for each.
Sophomores: Emily Herring, Mia Moore and Barbara Rangel; Freshman: Isabel Ayala, Milan McGary, Autumn Santiago, Sarah Soto, Jazzy Carrasco, Breanna Calhoun and Kristen Sullivan.
Devin Top – Wrestling
Devin graduated from Klein High School in Spring, Texas in 2016. He was an integral member on last year's reinstated wrestling team and competes in the 165-pound weight class.
At these year's state championships at Cerritos College, Devin won his first match by a major decision, 12-1, over Chabot College. He then lost to the 4th-place finisher from Sacramento before earning a technical fall against Bakersfield 17-1. Top then lost to the 3rd-place finisher from Cerritos, only to wrestle against the Chabot wrestler for the second time in the tournament earning another major decision.
Top is interested in continuing his wrestling at at a four-year school or attending Cal state Northridge.
Devin Top is majoring in kinesiology and has a 2.35 GPA. His outside interests include fitness and coaching. When not wrestling and going to school Devin enjoys playing guitar and video games.
