Softball goes 2-1 in WSC North action for the week
After playing 5 games last week, the Raiders Softball team went 2-1 in WSC North action this week. After the dust settled, the Raiders are 14-9 overall and 5-3 in WSC North action.
The Raiders opened the week hosting Santa Barbara with the Raiders dropping the game to the Vaqueros, 8-7. The Raiders followed that with a 10-0, 5 inning win over Oxnard in a rain make-up game that had been postponed twice by weather. The Raiders picked up a forfeit win over Pierce who had suspended their season and chose to forfeit their remaining schedule.
Hosting Santa Barbara to open the week, the Vaqueros set the tone for the game and got the scoring early plating a run in the top of the 1st. Amanda Smith was able to limit the damage getting the 3rd out leaving the bases loaded. The Raiders responded with their own 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Mia Gregory walked and scored on Leah Cowans' RBI single. Cowans found herself on 2nd after a bad throw by the Vaquero centerfielder. Kailey Greene singled, moving Cowans to 3rd. Kylie Kolkowski reach base on an error by the rightfielder, scoring Cowans. 2-1 Raiders after one. The Raiders added another run in the 2nd when Danielle Bishop scored on Mia Gregory's grounder to the pitcher. 3-1 Raiders after 2.
The Vaqueros would add 1 in the 3rd and 3 in the top of the 4th to take a 5-3 lead. In their bottom half of the 4th, the Raiders would 3 to re-take the lead 6-5. Camila Dalmau started the inning by walking with Danielle Bishop following with a walk. Bishop and Dalmau scored on Gregory's triple to tie game. Gregory scored on a wild pitch to get the lead.
Santa Barbara would chase reliever Kailey Greene after they loaded the bases in the top of the 5th forcing Amanda Smith back in the circle. The Vaqueros would eventually turn that into 3 runs and an 8-5 lead. The Raiders would add a run in the 6th but went 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 7th.
After two rainouts, the Raiders were finally able to host Oxnard and get the game in. After a 0-0 first and top half of the 2nd, the Raiders would put a crooked 6 on the Condors. Kylie Kolkowski and Amanda Smith went back to back home runs to open the 2nd. The 3rd Raider batter Bishop walked, Abrianna Ramirez reached base on E4. The next batter Tatum Reyes singled to load the bases. Gregory reached base after the catcher threw away the ball, 3-0 bases still loaded and no outs. Ashlyn Olson reached base after Raimirez was out at home. Reyes scored after a Greene grounder allowed Oxnard to get Gregory out at 3rd base. Olson scored on a Cowans RBI single and Greene would come in a pass ball. 6-0 Raiders.
The Raiders would add a run in the 3rd and 3 more runs in the 4th to take a 10-0 lead into the 5th and an 8 run mercy win.
Leah Cowans was 2 for 3 with a double. Amanda Smith was 2 for 2 with a homerun and 2 RBIs. Smith picked up the win in the circle.
The Raiders will have another 5 game week beginning with Cuesta at home on Tuesday, 4/1, 2:30p. Then they will hit the road on Wednesday, 4/2 to play at Chaffey at 3p. Their road trip concludes at Santa Monica on Thursday, 4/3, 2:30p. They will host Canyons on Saturday, 4/5 for a double dip beginning at 1p. with game two scheduled for 3p.
