Softball sweeps LA Valley to move to 4-1 on the season

After going 2-1 at Glendale, the Raiders were back in action traveling to Valley Glen taking on LA Valley for two games. The first game went into extra innings with the score tied at 1-1 but it was the Raiders scoring in the top of the 8th to break the tie and hang on for the 2-1 win. The second game leaned more towards what the Raiders were capable of getting a 13-5 win in 5 innings.
In game one, the Raiders opened the scoring in the top of the third. Danielle Bishop walked and Camila Dalmau singled to left, 2 on, 1 out. Leah Cowans lined out to second, 2 outs. Kylie Kolkowski walked to load the bases. The next batter, Isabella Velasquez walked scoring Bishop. 1-0. The Monarchs scored the tying run in the bottom of the 4th on E1.
It stayed 1-1 after 7. In the top of the 8th, with two outs Mia Gregory was hit by pitch. Gregory stole second on the second pitch to Raider batter Abrianna Ramirez. Ramirez stroked a double to center to score Gregory, 2-1 Raiders. Pitcher Amanda Smith went 1,2,3 to end the game. Smith scattered 3 hits and had 8Ks to pick up her 3rd win on the year.
The Raider bats woke up in game 2. The Raiders scored 13 runs on 10 hits. Mia Gregory, Kylie Kolkowski, Isabella Velasquez each hit homeruns. Gregory's was a 3 run blast. Kolkowski's was a 2 run shot over left-center. Velasquez was solo shot over right field. The Raiders scored 6 in the third and 4 in the fourth to take a 13-1 score into the bottom of the 4th. The monarchs would add 4 in the bottom of the fourth before Smith relieved starting pitcher Kailey Greene to end any hopes of Valley extending the game.
Kolkowski went 2 for 4 went with a double, HR, and 5 RBIs. Bishop went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Gregory was 1 for 3 with the HR and 3 RBIs.
The Raiders will have their home opener, hosting Cerritos on Monday, 2/3 at 2p.
