Softball goes 2-1 in season opening David "Hawk" Wilder Memorial Tournament at Glendale

The Moorpark Raiders Softball team opened up the 2025 season at the David "Hawk" Wilder Memorial Tournament at Glendale last Friday. Despite having limited practice times, the Raiders opened the tournament defeating LA Valley 13-3, and followed that up with a 14-2 win over East LA. On day two, the Raiders lost a heartbreaker San Diego Mesa in an extra inning, walk-off game. The Raiders were scheduled to play Compton but the weather moved in and caused a postponement.
Sophomore pitcher Amanda Smith pitched 9.2 innings while going 1-1 on the mound, batted .667 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI's and two runs scored.
Isabella Velaquez went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs with a double and triple. Leah Cowans went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs and Mia Gregory had a homerun against LA Valley.
Mia Gregory went 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Leah Cowans went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored against East LA.
In their game against San Diego Mesa, Kylie Kolwalski went 2 for 2 with a double and a RBI, Leah Cowan went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI. The Raiders were leading 6-3 going into the bottom of the 6th but surrendered 4 in the bottom in the 6th. (The tournament's format had each game to be 5 innings).
The Raiders will travel to LA Valley for a double dip on Wednesday, 1/29, 12:00p and 2:30p.
