Softball splits double-header with Ventura to get their first win
Softball began the day defeating Ventura
Softball began the day defeating Ventura, 6-4, in game one of their double-header. The win gave the Raiders and first year Head Coach John Barry their first win.
The Pirates jump out to a quick 3-0 lead and held on to it until the 6th inning. Lead off batter Delanee Upchurch was hit by a pitch, Marley Taormina ripped a triple to score Upchurch, Alahna Long RBI single scores Taormina. 3-2, with the Raiders still trailing. VC added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th.
In the top of the 7th, lead off batter Gabby Niebla singled and stole second, Monica Munoz walked. With no outs, Rachel Hurtado two RBI triple scores Niebla and Munoz to tie the game 4-4. With one out, Tori Villegas RBI triple scores Hurtado, 5-4 Raiders. Rachel Coleman replaced Villegas at third eventually scoring on Taormina's single. 6-4 Raiders. Starting pitcher, Seren Horton, allowed surrendered one hit but shut down VC's hope of a win.
Horton, who gets her first college win, pitced a complete game scattering 10 hits and allowing 4 runs. Taormina went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Niebla went 3 for 3 with a run scored.
In game 2, the Raiders scored 2 runs on 8 hits. Niebla single scored Long, who tripled to open up the second inning. In the top of the 6th, Dee Villa tripled and scored on Villegas triple. 3-2 Pirates.
Villa went 3 for 4 with a run scored, Villegas went 2 for 3 with a RBI. Starting pitcher Madison Westerhouse took the loss.
