#4 Men's Volleyball slips at Santa Barbara and sweeps LA Pierce in last week's conference action
The newly named #4 team in the state Men's Volleyball team split in last week's divisional action. The Raiders fell into the rap and had their 8 game winning streak snapped in Santa Barbara, losing in for 4 games to the Vaqueros. Game scores were 25-27, 20-25, 25-15, and 19-25.
The Raiders redeemed themselves defeating visiting LA Pierce, 3-0, to close out the week. Game scores were 25-17, 25-17, and 25-22.
At Santa Barbara, the Raiders may have looking ahead to the Pierce contest as they struggled with their hitting from the onset. With a chance to win game one, the Raider errors were too much to overcome as the dropped game one 25-27. The Raider funk carried into game two as they fell behind as the Vaqueros put together a mini run to pull away.
Game three saw the Raiders settle down and showed why they were deserving of the #4 ranking taking game 3 in dominant fashion, 25-15.
The Raiders were hoping to get the reverse sweep but the ghosts of SB's Sports Pavilion came out to give the Vaqueros a game 4 and match win.
Tyler Linville, Taylor Phipps, and Jacob Knudsen each had 10 kills. Ryan Ferguson had 40 assists and Joey Nelson had 7 digs.
The Raiders made quick work of LA Pierce in a nice rebound from their loss to Santa Barbara. The Raiders over-powered the Brahmas to take a quick two game lead going into game three. Game three saw the reserves get plenty of game speed action on their way to a 25-22 game 3 win and sweep.
The Raiders are now 11-3 overall and 5-1 in divisional play. They will host Antelope Valley on Wednesday, 3/19, 6p. They will begin round 2 of divisional play on Friday, 3/21 at Long Beach, 6p
