Men's Basketball maintains their 1st place lead in WSC North defeating Pierce and Santa Barbara.

After an unexpected and extended break, the Raider Men's Basketball (15-7, 5-1) team hosted LA Pierce and Santa Barbara in last week's WSC North action. The Raiders who hadn't played since January 18th showed little rust defeating LA Pierce 76-61 and followed that up with a 75-66 win over Santa Barbara.

The Raiders jumped out to a 8-3 lead and extended it to 18-9 taking a 39-28 halftime lead. The Raiders opened the second half extending their lead to 54-42 with 9 minutes to go and reach 20 points with just over 2 minutes to go. The Raiders closed out the game on a 10-3 run, 76-61 final.

Cooper Lucas continued with his hot had leading the Raiders with a game high 17 points. Isaiah Sherrard had a double-double, 13 points and 14 rebounds. Reese Widerburg added 13 points in the win.

The Raiders hosted last place Santa Barbara to close out the week. An inspired Santa Barbara came out and took an early 7-3 lead. They maintained the lead for a whole 9 minutes before the Raiders tied it at 17-17. Both teams would exchange baskets and leads 4 times before the Raiders grabbed control and went on a 13-3 to close out the half and take a 37-30 lead.

The Raider lead would grow to 15 points with 13 minutes and it looked like they were going to avoid the trap game syndrome. However the Vaquero inspiration along with some Raider mental lapses would to the Raider's lead being cut it to 4 with 1:30 left. The Raiders did not flinch and played defense and made their final 4 free throws to get the win 75-66 win.

Cooper Lucas scored a game high 22 points. Jordan Torres added 16 points. Isaiah Sherrard added 8 points and 12 rebounds.

The Raiders will take on upstart Oxnard on Monday, 2/3 which was postponed from a week earlier. They will travel to take on Ventura on Wednesday, 2/5, 7p and close out the week hosting nemesis Cuesta, which brings some foreign flair with them, on Saturday, 2/8 at 3p.
