Football falters against Santa Barbara in their season finale. AVC cancels last regular season game.
With what looked to be their season finale, the Raiders fell to Santa Barbara 26-20 to close out their 2024 season. The Raiders were notified earlier in the week that Antelope Valley would cancel their last two games because they did not have enough player to safely complete their season. The Raiders will pick up the forfeit win againts the Marauders. They will finish with a 4-6 overall record and 2-5 in National Northern Conference.
The Raiders got the scoring started on the opening drive of the night thanks to a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kadyn Parr and Dameian Hernandez. The extra-point attempt was missed. That lead didn't last long, as the Vaqueros took the ensuing kickoff 84 yards down the field for a touchdown and a 7-6 advantage with the extra point.
Unfazed, the Raider offense marched right back down the field and scored on a 20-yard touchdown from Parr to Rhys Kelly. With no kicker, the two point conversion failed but had a 12-7 lead heading into the second.
After a few stalled drives and exchanged possessions, it was the Vaqueros that got something going, pushing the ball to the 22 before they settled for 38-yard field goal. The Raiders still led, 12-10 with 5 minutes left in the 1st half. The Raider offense wasted little time going down the field. Parr used his arm and legs to get the Raiders poised to score before the half but the turnover bug hit Parr and he fumbled on the 5 yard line trying to get to the end zone.
With 1:30 left, the Vaqueros used their two minute offense to get a 8 yard rushing TD to take 17-12 halftime lead
The third quarter was a defensive back and forth battle as a Santa Barbara field goal was the only points scored. 20-12 Raiders trail after 3.
The Raiders opened the 4th going on a nine-play 65 yard scoring drive that ended in a 7-yard rushing touchdown by Parr. Going for two, Parr found Conley Moskot all alone in the end zone to tie the score 20-20 with 9:20 left in the game.
After the two exchanged possessions, Vaqueros broke the tie with 3:16 left in the game. The Raiders got the ball back but after two incomplete passes and a short completion that left a 4th and 6 to keep the drive alive, Parr's pass fluttered to the ground and the Vaqueros ran the clock out.
