Moorpark College Athletics Names Lindsay Samaniego as New Athletic Director
MOORPARK, CA — Moorpark College Athletics is proud to announce that Raider alumna and former Women's Basketball Coach Lindsay Samaniego has been selected as the college's new Athletic Director. She becomes the 8th Athletic Director in school history, succeeding interim Athletic Director Aaron Hedland.
Samaniego brings more than two decades of experience in athletics—as a student-athlete, instructor, coach, and administrator—to her new leadership role.
A proud product of El Camino Charter High School, Samaniego joined Moorpark College in Fall 2002, competing in both basketball and softball for the Raiders. She went on to continue her basketball career at San Diego State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical Education.
After graduating from SDSU in 2006, Samaniego returned to Moorpark College as an assistant coach before being named Head Women's Basketball Coach in 2007. During her six-year tenure, she led the Raiders to a historic 3C2A Elite Eight finish in 2013.
That same year, Samaniego took over as Head Women's Basketball Coach at California Lutheran University. Over five seasons, she guided the Regals to five SCIAC Tournament appearances, including three semifinal and two final appearances.
Most recently, Samaniego served at San Diego Mesa College, where she held multiple roles: Assistant Athletic Director, tenured Associate Professor of Exercise Science, Head Women's Basketball Coach, and Student Athlete Advisory Committee Coordinator.
Samaniego holds an Associate of Science in Physical Education from Moorpark College and a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University.
In accepting the position, Samaniego reflected on her journey and future with Moorpark College:
"Moorpark College has always been a special place for me. It helped shape me into the person I am today, and I will be forever grateful for my experiences as a student-athlete, women's basketball coach, and adjunct faculty member. I am excited for the opportunity to lead our athletic department and be a resource for our student-athletes in helping them achieve their goals.
I would also like to give a special thank you to President Sokenu, Dean Calfin, and the rest of the hiring committee for trusting in me as the next Athletic Director. We have some of the top coaches and staff in the state, and I'm looking forward to joining such an elite team."
Samaniego will officially begin her duties as Athletic Director on July 1st.
