The Moorpark College women's basketball team will stroll into 2022 on a six-game winning streak after capturing the ELAC Tournament title Wednesday night with a 42-40 win over tournament-host East LA.
Kaydn Mew and Ashley Orozco were named All-Tournament for their performance through the team's three wins.
Orozco scored 19 points in the Raiders' 66-53 win over College of the Canyons Monday. Mew led the way Tueday with 18 points in Moorpark's 87-49 win over Mission College.
The two turned in a team effort in the tournament final. Mew scored team-high 13 points, while Orozco puled down a game-high nine rebounds in a hard-fought defensive battle.
Raiders will shoot up CCCAA State poll
Don't be surprised if Moorpark (11-3) shoots up the next CCCAA State poll. Monday's win over Canyon will likely make the Raiders the No. 1-ranked team in the SoCal rankings. The Cougars were previously ranked No. 1 in the region.
Moorpark was No. 7 in the latest state poll (Dec. 20) and No. 5 in the SoCal poll.
